An interior decorator can change your life. Alexis Nielsen is just that interior decorator. Alexis designed and managed my remodel to reflect the lifestyle and comfort I wanted for my home and family. We have a home, not a house, which is beautiful, comfortable, cozy and unique, because of Alexis. She is a miracle worker! Alexis is an amazingly talented decorator and great project manager. Beyond her skills, she has a 6th sense about what will work in your house and space and she has the courage and willingness to really probe about your needs, expectations and budget. Alexis is also really skilled at handling and managing the inevitable frustrations and emotions that arise from a home decorating project. There were many things that I initially dismissed but Alexis took the time to educate and recommend great ideas that I absolutely love. My project began as an attic space to master bedroom remodel but soon extended to my entire home because of her awesomeness. We have worked together for over two years and the scope of the remodel expanded because Alexis made such great affordable recommendations and suggestions. One of the first things I told Alexis was that I was budget conscious. Alexis met that challenge through her willingness to shop anywhere and everywhere for a bargain. I also travel every week from Monday through Friday so I needed Alexis to manage the project closely for me. Her ability to communicate and delegate with vendors while I was away was invaluable to me. It saved my time, money and aggravation. She worked side by side with my contractor every step of the way, and they have continually worked together to come up with solutions that work best for the space and my budget. Alexis is flexible, diligent, has excellent attention to detail, and she’s just fun to work with. Her design skills have transformed a dark and dated space into a light filled home filled with color and beautiful details. Alexis has a great eye for space potential. Her recommendation to add 9 skylights to the pitched roof for my master suite seemed crazy and really, really expensive. Today I can’t imagine the space without them. They have truly transformed the feel of the master bedroom. She was also willing and able to adapt to challenging schedule changes with a smile. During our project, my sister and her daughter had to move into the home for six months because their own home was severely damaged in a storm. Alexis kept things on track as needed until the work could resume at full level. I would highly recommend Alexis for any decorating project.

About 10 years ago I made the decision to paint my master bedroom pale blue. Why did I do that? I hate the color blue! It took me a long time to realize that my dissatisfaction with the room and my inability to make any decorating choices for it was due to the wall color. Duh! I met Alexis Nielsen through a friend of mine and decided to ask her to help me. First thing, work on the wall color! I am not afraid of bold dark colors so Lexi suggested the Vintage Wine and Hush colors from Benjamin Moore. Painting those walls was the most satisfying part of the project. While we were at it, I had crown molding installed that made the room look finished and lovely. Because my budget was small, Lexi went around the house and tried to find ways to repurpose accent pieces I had in other rooms. Painted chests from a spare bedroom and a secretary I had on a landing fit in the bedroom perfectly. The landing got a much smaller table and mirror that look fantastic in that space. Lexi suggested a beautiful patterned chocolate brown rug from Crate and Barrel for the bedroom. It is plush and soft and I love walking on it. A new duvet set from Pottery Barn came next. The final part of the project is the artwork for the walls. I can’t wait to see what Lexi finds for me. It has been a pleasure working with Lexi. The vision I have had for the master bedroom has finally come to be. She listened to what I wanted to do and made it all happen. I love it!

I consider myself having a pretty good eye for choosing paint color when it comes to decorating the inside of my house. But when I was considering the colors for the outside of my house, that prospect presented a bigger challenge to me than I cared to take on. Bottom line – I needed help. The outside was very outdated and desperately needed some updating and curb appeal. And, putting the wrong colors on the outside can be disastrous. After talking to several paint companies, no one could give me any direction in finding someone who did color consultation. Well, in walked Alexis. She was working on an internal design for a good friend of mine, and I thought it couldn’t hurt to contact her about doing an outside color design for a house. She explained to me that although most of her work didn’t include exterior design, she was willing to help me with my project. And for that, I truly appreciated her candor in being up front about her experience. Our consultation was more of what I would call a color lesson than a consultation. I had a color palette in mind, but her ideas totally blew me away. She listened to what I wanted to accomplish and made great suggestions without discarding my color choices. She explained why they would work well with the style of my house. So, deciding on the color palette all made perfect sense. When Alexis returned with the actual colors, they were perfect. She gave me choices. Ask me which ones I liked. And she agreed to come back when I was ready to get the project started to oversee the paint contractor for me. It was truly a pleasure working with her. I will definitely work with her again. And I would definitely recommend Alexis for any design project, interior or exterior.

Lexi Nielsen is a dream to work with. She has an unusual combination of design expertise, a keen sense of observation, and a heightened ability to listen. Lexi asks the right questions in a manner that helped us clarify our lifestyle goals. I would add that Lexi is a “no-nonsense” professional as well. She honored our time, budget and personal taste. I never felt pressured to do something that I did not want because Lexi guided the design process so skillfully. For us – a merged marriage with lots of eclectic stuff – Lexi was masterful at negotiating our differences. She coached us and kept us focused on what we wanted as a couple, while supporting us as we each simplified our “stuff.”

Lexi was such a great help in decorating my office. As it has no windows, it presented quite a challenge. Despite this, she made seemingly simple suggestions that did a phenomenal job at opening up the space while still maintaining the intimate feel of the room. I also appreciated how she was able to suggest space-specific ideas that worked within my budget. Since my office has been finished, several colleagues have made comments as to how comfortable the space is, and one new colleague has held up my office as an example of how he’d like his office to be. I highly recommend her.

Lexi is so easy to work with. She is patient and insightful. She listens to what I say and picks up on my likes and dislikes. She has helped me get out of my “conservative box” and try different things. Her greatest advice has been “Try it and see if you like it. You can always go back.” I love working with her.
